Yang Tingjie
Lineage & School of Heritage
In 1949 he joined the Tianshui folk organisation known as the Shangyuan Hui, studied under Jin Shengqin, took part in organising and carrying out the folk sacrifices to Fuxi, and became thoroughly proficient in the traditional sacrificial rites.
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
He improved the way the Shangyuan Hui operated and, with the leadership and assistance of the government and administrative bodies, enabled this folk organisation to meet the needs of social development. He took part in restoring the dragon-horse statue in the Fuxi Temple and in reproducing the Hetu, the Luoshu millstone and the Fuxi statue. Building on ritual procedures inherited from the Qing dynasty, he added content relevant to modern society to the sacrificial texts. The ritual process that he presents systematically has been studied and adopted by other folk belief ceremonies. He has accepted six direct disciples and uses the folk sacrifices to Fuxi to pass on and transmit the sacrificial rites.
