Female, Miao ethnicity, born in July 1967 in Liuzhi Special District, Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province. At the age of six or seven she began learning batik and embroidery from her mother, and by the age of ten she had gained a preliminary command of the techniques of Miao costume making. As she grew up her skills matured day by day; her embroidery and batik techniques are refined, and the polychrome costumes she makes are finely worked and singular in design.
Honors & Recognition
She is a national representative bearer of Miao Costume, a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. She has regularly entered competitions at various levels and of various kinds; in 2006, at the preliminary contest of the Liupanshui division of the Colorful Guizhou tourism commodity design and production event sponsored by the Kailin Cup, she was named Outstanding Designer of Liangdu Tourism Commodities and Skilled Artisan of Liangdu Tourism Commodities, and she received an excellence award in the Liangdu tourism commodity design competition and an excellence award in the Liangdu tourism commodity production skills selection competition. She carries out transmission activities actively in her township, devoting herself to training bearers of Qingmiao polychrome-dyed costume; she has trained forty-eight apprentices and combines the teaching of skills with poverty alleviation, leading villagers out of poverty toward prosperity.
