Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, Han ethnicity, born in October 1960, a native of Fusong County, Jilin Province. He knows the Changbai Mountain ginseng-gathering customs thoroughly and has a firm command of all their rules and taboos. Decades of experience in the mountains enable him to tell, from observation of a site alone, whether ginseng grows there. From the 1990s he established a 15-hectare ginseng-gathering base in the mountains so that more young people could learn and experience the skills and customs of mountain work. He also attaches importance to theoretical research on ginseng-gathering customs and has compiled and published four works: An Illustrated Compendium of Chinese Ginseng, Rare Wild Mountain Ginseng, Treasures of Changbai Mountain and The Uses of Wild Mountain Ginseng.
