Luo Ying, Female, Yi, from Chuxiongyizuzizhi, Yunnan, is a sixth-batch national representative bearer of Meige (Ⅰ-63). The tradition is documented in Chuxiongyizuzizhi, Yunnan. Within the regional tradition and school record of Meige in Chuxiongyizuzizhi, Yunnan: The orally transmitted Yi creation epic is at present five thousand seven hundred and seventy lines long, divided into the four parts of creation, making things, marriage and love songs, and burial. The oral Yao'an Yi Meige originated in Guantun township of Yao'an county in the Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan, has a long history and is widely popular.

Meige has four types: old people's Meige, middle-aged Meige, young people's Meige and children's Meige. Old people's Meige, also called red Meige, chiefly sings of the creation of heaven and earth and the founding of enterprises and also reflects the labour and life of the Yi; middle-aged Meige sings of the hardship of production and life after young men and women marry, its content and tune fairly plaintive and sad; young people's Meige, also called mountain Meige, reflects the pure love of Yi young men and women and belongs to the nature of courtship mountain songs, capable of improvisation in the singing; children's Meige is the Yi nursery song, popularly the children's tune, sung antiphonally by groups of Yi youngsters and children. In 2025, Luo Ying was announced in the sixth batch of national representative bearers for Meige, with Chuxiongyizuzizhi, Yunnan as the declared area. Within the documented safeguarding record of Meige in Chuxiongyizuzizhi, Yunnan: The project was inscribed in the national inventory in 2008 (batch 2), with Chuxiongyizuzizhi, Yunnan as its declared area, and Chuxiong Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarding Center as its safeguarding unit. Since the project was inscribed in the national inventory, its declared area and safeguarding unit have carried out documentation, transmission and presentation within the national safeguarding framework. Together, the inventory record and the project archive form the public documentary basis for the bearer’s transmission practice.
