Luo Deshu
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, Han ethnicity, born in 1949 in Lu County, Sichuan. At fourteen Luo Deshu followed his father Luo Yinkun in learning the art of the dragon dance; over decades of practice he mastered the play of the pearl, the handling of the dragon head and the dance techniques of every section of the dragon body, together with the complete performance routines and the classic figure movements. In performances of the Yutan colour dragon he chiefly plays the dragon head. He brings his own feeling into the dragon dance; under his lead the dragon is danced with overwhelming momentum, complete in both form and spirit. Drawing over many years on the finest points of acrobatics and of dragon dances from other regions, he has innovated and developed the routines and techniques of the Yutan colour dragon.
