Lineage & School of Heritage

While Mouzhengfa was attending middle school, his father, Miao Kangrong, taught him the art of Taiping drum dancing, and he later studied under artists such as Xu Qi and Yang Yulan. He innovated the drumming technique of the Taiping drum, fusing the different schools of Lanzhou Taiping drum performance, namely the high, middle and low drums, so that the performance expresses more fully the rough, uninhibited and virile beauty of the men of the northwest.

Mouzhengfa, a male of Han ethnicity, was born in 1955 in Lanzhou, Gansu.
