Lineage & School of Heritage

Wangla began learning the peacock dance in 1957. He studied under Shuai Hanhen, Mo Enshuai, Mo Hanshuai, Ruiban, Mao Xiang and others, absorbing the essence of each master's peacock dance and integrating what he learned into a coherent practice of his own. His dance style therefore has a flavour all its own; his gaze, his shoulder shivering and his other movements in particular reproduce the image of the peacock with striking fidelity.
