Narenmandoula
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, Mongolian ethnicity, born in 1946 in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia. In 1958 Narenmandoula began learning the Andai dance from two veteran Andai dancers, Jimuyan and E'erdunbala, and in 1966 he formed an amateur performance troupe and served as its director. Building on the legacy of his predecessors, he modified the existing Andai movements, lyrics and tunes, incorporating new content suited to modern society, and gradually brought the open-ground Andai onto the stage. In his reworked Andai dance, singing and dancing are combined with stamping the feet, swinging the arms and tossing silk scarves, which makes the performance more fervent and uninhibited. Narenmandoula has made important contributions to the transmission and development of the Andai dance.
