Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, of Hui ethnicity, born in 1961, a native of Botou, Hebei. The Liuhe Quan (Six-Harmony Boxing) practiced by Shi Tongding is characterized by extended yet nimble postures and continuous hand techniques, by stability within movement and stillness within motion, by clear footwork that balances hardness and softness, by distinct movement and stillness, and by an elegant yet practical character. It emphasizes yin and yang and requires the coordinated interplay of rising and falling, movement and stillness, with mind joined to intention, qi joined to force, hands joined to feet, elbows joined to knees, and shoulders joined to hips. Beyond the basic martial arts skills common to all schools, there are also foundational exercises and special techniques, such as the Shisan Taibao (Thirteen Protectors) gong routines, Wu Qin (Five Animals), Xiantianjing, catching and throwing sandbags, and stylized jar-grabbing. The main hand forms of Liuhe Quan include the fist, palm, hook, and open and closed positions; its main fist techniques include splitting, smashing, and thrusting; and its main leg techniques include springing, kicking, stamping, hooking, and circling. In 2002 Shi Tongding founded Liuhe Wu (Six-Harmony Martial Arts), using training venues as a carrier and the six harmonies as a medium to jointly promote the development of Liuhe Quan.
