Ren Genxin
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Female, of Han ethnicity, born in 1963 in Xiangfen, Shanxi. In 1974 Ren Genxin was admitted to the opera performance programme of the Linfen City School of Culture and Art, where she specialized in the dan (female) role. She absorbed the performing style and repertory of the Wang school founded by the late celebrated Puzhou clapper opera dan actor Wang Cuncai; her grounding is deep and solid, and she has inherited and mastered a great many traditional Puzhou clapper opera classics. In 1979 she joined the Experimental Puzhou Opera Troupe of the Linfen Puzhou Opera Theatre. Over years of stage practice she has continually surpassed herself, bringing contemporary aesthetics into her creation of characters; her singing is natural and unadorned, her acting finely nuanced and profound. Her representative works include Gua Hua (Hanging the Picture), Shi Yu Zhuo (Picking Up the Jade Bracelet), Biao Hua (Presenting Flowers), Kao Huo (Warming by the Fire), Da Shen Gao Miao (Beating the God and Accusing at the Temple), and Tu Kang Shang de Nüren (The Woman on the Kang).
