Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, of Han ethnicity, born in 1960 in Yaodu, Shanxi. Guo Zemin specializes in the laosheng (old male) role. Since graduating from the former Linfen County Art School, he has drawn on a deep and solid grounding in tradition to inherit and master the classic repertory of Puzhou clapper opera masters such as Yan Fengchun. His singing is full and unrestrained yet also subtle and deeply felt, his acting bold and heroic yet not without refinement and delicacy, and he is exceptionally skilled at portraying characters through such traditional special techniques as the rankou (artificial beard) and the wing technique. His representative works include Pao Cheng (Running Through the City), Fan Ma (The Horse Dealer), Guan Zhen (Watching the Battle Formation), and Tu Kang Shang de Nüren (The Woman on the Kang).
