Huo Qingshun is a sixth-generation inheritor of the Huo family's Yangliuqing New Year pictures, and Huo Qingyou is his full brother. Immersed in the family environment from childhood, he developed a deep love of the art of New Year pictures.
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, of the Han ethnic group, born in 1952 in Tianjin. From 1956 onward he learned color painting from his elders and from his elder sister, gradually extending his study into the techniques of block carving and picture mounting. Huo Qingshun has consistently adhered to the traditional crafts of woodblock overprinting and hand coloring in producing Yangliuqing New Year pictures. He has continually excavated and organized the resources of Yangliuqing woodblock New Year pictures. He is especially skilled at hand coloring, and adept at handling the contrasts of strength and softness between complexity and simplicity, large and small scale, hue and tonal saturation. He has accumulated a wealth of New Year painting techniques; the New Year pictures he produces feature exquisite carving, delicate handling, bright colors, and vivid images. His works have been well received by people from all circles at home and abroad. In 2003 he took part in the activity 'Chinese People Celebrate the New Year' held at the National Museum of China, and his works Wuzi Duolian (Five Children Vying for the Lotus) and Liannian Youyu (Abundance Year After Year) were collected by the National Museum of China. He has also traveled to Switzerland with the 'Cradle of Knowledge' exhibition delegation of the China Science and Technology Museum to give live demonstrations of Yangliuqing New Year painting.

He is a national representative bearer of Yangliuqing Woodblock New Year Pictures, a first-batch national intangible cultural heritage project.
