Female, Hui ethnicity, born in 1946 in Zhengzhou, Henan. Her acting is dignified and generous, graceful and distinguished, and her range is wide; her singing is bright and rounded. She is acclaimed as one of the leading figures of contemporary Yuju performance. Her representative works include Hua Mulan and Duan Qiao (The Broken Bridge).

Honors & Recognition

A national representative bearer of Yuju (Henan Opera), a second-batch national intangible cultural heritage project; president of the Zhengzhou Yuju Theatre in Henan Province; and a first-grade actor. At twelve Hu Meiling entered the opera school of the Zhengzhou suburbs to train, and in 1981 she formally became a disciple of Chang Xiangyu. She has comprehensively inherited the Chang school tradition while developing it further, and has trained many successors for that tradition.
