Huo Qingyou is a sixth-generation inheritor of the Huo family's Yangliuqing New Year pictures, and he too was immersed in the family environment from childhood, developing a deep love of the art of New Year pictures. At the age of six he began learning color painting from his father, Huo Yutang; at ten he studied outlining and printing; at twelve he learned block carving; and at sixteen he studied picture mounting.

Male, of the Han ethnic group, born in 1952 in Tianjin. Beginning in the 1980s, Huo Qingyou worked together with his father to excavate and organize Yangliuqing New Year pictures, discovering more than one hundred valuable printing blocks and old paintings, which filled a gap in the Buddhist-themed works of Yangliuqing New Year painting. In 1993 the entire Huo family restored the Yuchenghao Painting Shop. He is one of the few New Year painting artists in the Yangliuqing field who combines the skills of outlining, carving, printing, painting, and mounting in a single person. He is particularly adept at producing design drafts and carving blocks; the woodblocks he carves have lines that are fluent and delicate, clear and steady, and they carry forward the block-carving techniques of Yangliuqing woodblock New Year pictures very well. In recent years, in order to publicize and promote Yangliuqing woodblock New Year pictures, he expanded his own residence of more than two hundred square meters into a family-workshop-style exhibition hall for New Year pictures, the first of its kind in Tianjin. His representative works include Wuzi Duolian (Five Children Vying for the Lotus), Zhulin Qixian (Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove), and others.

He is a representative bearer of Yangliuqing Woodblock New Year Pictures, a first-batch intangible cultural heritage project.
