Lineage & School of Heritage

Li Shiji began learning to sing Nu Qi Jie (The Female Prisoner's Lament) at the age of five and received instruction from Cheng Yanqiu and Furongcao. At 12 she formally took Cheng Yanqiu as her master and studied the qingyi, or virtuous female, role, later seeking guidance from Mei Lanfang, Zhao Tongshan and Wang Youqing. Years of diligent study and hard practice gave her a solid foundation.
