Female, Han ethnicity, born in 1932 in Beijing. She is a national representative bearer of Peking Opera, a second-batch national intangible cultural heritage project, a Peking Opera performing artist and a first-grade actor. Du Jinfang first appeared on stage at the age of six and was taught by Lü Peifang, Chen Shinai, Liu Yufang and others. She took Wang Yaoqing as her master in 1945 and Mei Lanfang as her master in 1950, and at 15 she joined the companies of Tan Fuying and Yang Baosen. From 1951 she worked for many years at the China National Peking Opera Company, appearing on the same stage with such Peking Opera masters as Li Shaochun, Ye Shenglan and Yuan Shihai. She was accomplished in many repertory pieces of the Mei school, and her signature works include Liuyin Ji (The Willows' Shade), Bai She Zhuan (The Legend of the White Snake) and Xie Yaohuan. Her performance fuses the artistic styles of Mei Lanfang and Wang Yaoqing while adding creations of her own, combining delicate, voluptuous beauty with firm, solid strength. Her singing has a sweet timbre, round and mellow, with clear diction, and she is skilled at controlling breath, volume and rhythm.
