Lineage & School of Heritage

Bianshusen studied successively under Feng Guangting, known as Pingshan Hong and one of the four great laosheng (older male role) actors of Sixian opera, and under Wang Yongchun, among others. Spanning both the young male (xiaosheng) and older male (laosheng) role types, his singing blends firmness with suppleness, conveying emotion through the voice and letting emotion guide the voice so that sound and feeling are equally full; his style became known as the Bian school.
