Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, of the Han ethnic group, born in 1953 in Gaomi, Shandong. In 1976 he engaged in New Year painting creation at the county cultural center under the guidance of Teacher Jiao Yanfeng; in 1983 he began creating Gaomipuhui New Year pictures and taught several disciples. In creating New Year pictures he first drafts the design in his mind, then sketches the outline with willow-charcoal sticks, and finally presses sheets of paper onto the outline to take rubbings. The Gaomipuhui New Year pictures he paints uphold traditional themes and styles, while boldly innovating in color and figure line-work by borrowing and absorbing the techniques of traditional Chinese painting. Through decades of dedicated painting practice and drawing on the strengths of many masters, he has gradually formed his own distinctive style: clear and elegant, graceful yet dignified. His representative works include Zhushou Tu (Wishing Longevity), Bogu Ping (Screen of Antiquarian Motifs), Sanxing Tu (The Three Stars), and others.
