Baijinrong
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
At the age of twelve, Baijinrong took Zhang Minghua as her teacher, learning to sing pingju, Beijing opera and Henan zhuizi; at fourteen she joined a troupe as a singer, and at nineteen she entered the Shangqiu City Sipingdiao Opera Troupe, where she performed sheng (male), chou (clown) and caidan (comic female) roles. Her voice is deep, resonant and sonorous, and her singing style is spirited and unrestrained, moving freely between speech-like delivery and song, with well-ordered pauses and stresses and a proper command of rise and fall, blending strength with gentleness in a fresh melodic line; her acting is plain and natural, and her characterisations are vivid. Her representative works include Da Mian Gang (Beating the Dough Vat), Tiao Nüxu (Choosing a Son-in-Law), Shen Gaoming (The Titled Lady on Trial), San Buyuanyi (Three Reluctances) and Xiao Baogong (The Young Lord Bao).
