Gamaciren
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Male, Tibetan, born in 1947, a native of Qonggyai, Tibet. In 1980 Gamaciren took Qimi Ciren and Qimi Dunzhu as his teachers and studied Tibetan opera (Shannan Qonggyai Kazhuo Tashi Penden), and from 1987 he began to perform Tibetan opera formally. His performance carries on the classic acting techniques of his forebears and preserves the traditional artistic style of Tibetan opera. In 1992 he also took on eight apprentices and passed on the art of Tibetan opera performance; after sixteen years of arduous training and rehearsal, all eight reached a standard at which they could perform whenever called upon.
