Zhou Jianbin
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
He was born in 1963 into the Han ethnic group in Xupu, Hunan. In 1976 Zhou Jianbin was admitted to the Xupu County arts training class, a formal opera school, where he studied under Yang Zongdao, a celebrated young male lead of Chenhe opera, inheriting his rich, delicate and vividly flexible acting technique together with a vocal style in which rugged force and gentle modulation carry equal weight. The traditional martial and civil plays in which he has appeared, among them The Phoenix Pavilion (Fengyi Ting), A Secret Tryst and the Release of Pei, A Hundred Flowers Bestow a Sword, The Bee's Head and Mulian Opera, were all taught to him personally by veteran artists.
