Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
She is a woman of Han ethnicity, born in October 1944 in Fengtai County, Anhui Province. Drawing on the strengths of many schools and synthesising a range of artistic styles, she has preserved the authentic flavour and traditional movement vocabulary of Fengtai huagudeng while incorporating modern aesthetic sensibilities, forming a distinctive style of her own and creating a number of stage characters of differing temperaments. In the huagudeng duet Xiao Hua Chang (The Small Flower Field) she has employed and created such innovative movements as the great trembling step, the trembling bounce and the butterfly flight; the version of Xiao Hua Chang that she refined and performed together with Zhang Shigen, a national representative bearer of Fengtai huagudeng, has been acclaimed by experts within the province as the foremost Xiao Hua Chang of Anhui. For many years she has worked at the grassroots, devoting herself to the performance, training and teaching of huagudeng, and has trained several hundred students.
