She began studying Sichuan Opera at the age of thirteen under the renowned Sichuan Opera artists Yang Youhe and Zhou Yuxiang. Her stage appearance is delicate and comely, her voice round and smooth, her diction clear and her vocal colour rich; her phrasing is supple and flowing, and she is adept at employing eyes and bodily movement of great artistic charm to portray the inner emotional world of her characters with subtlety and profundity.

Female, Han ethnicity, born in July 1928 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. She is a National First-Class Actor. As early as the 1940s she was voted a queen of Sichuan Opera by audiences, together with Chen Shufang and Liao Jingqiu. Her representative productions include Ping Xue Bian Zong (Judging Tracks in the Snow), Gui Zhong Yuan (Predestined in the Cupboard), Kong Que Dan (Peacock Gall), Tan Ji'er, Liu Yin Ji (The Record of the Willow Shade), Feng San Niang, Zhai Gui Fu (Picking Osmanthus with an Axe) and Bai Hua Zeng Jian (A Hundred Flowers Present a Sword).
Honors & Recognition
National representative bearer of Chuanju (Sichuan Opera), a third-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. In a stage career of more than seventy years she performed several dozen full-length plays and nearly a hundred excerpted scenes, created numerous female (dan) characters of Sichuan Opera, and trained nearly a hundred disciples.
