02 · Core Techniques & Process
Beipiao city in Liaoning lies in the west of the province, a city of long history and culture with a relatively deep deposit of human relics and a rich store of folk literature. Afterwards Beipiao also successively edited the Beipiao Selected Folk Literature. The folk stories alone include the eight great categories of scenery legends, figure legends, fantasy stories, stories of life, stories of plants and animals, custom stories, jokes and fables. In addition there are a great many folk ballads and proverbs. Beipiao folk literature is the witness of the heroic struggle of the Beipiao people in the course of modern and contemporary revolution and embodies in a concentrated way their spirit of unremitting self-improvement.

03 · Regional Records & Related Items
Beipiao folk literature is widely distributed, long in transmission, great in quantity and complete in categories. In particular the local figure and scenery stories represented by Injannasi and the Huining temple embody the distinctive charm of the blending of Mongol and Han culture in the region; they have a vigorous and plain artistic style and their own features in structure, language and characterisation.
04 · Cultural Value & Contemporary Safeguarding
Among them the stories of the great Mongol literary master Injannasi, the stories of the anti-Japanese heroes Lan Tianlin and Li Haifeng, the legend of Dahei mountain, the green island of western Liaoning, and the stories of the Huining temple, a holy place of Tibetan Buddhism, form systems of their own, rich and varied, with very high humanistic value. In recent years the cultural workers of Beipiao have persisted in excavating and collating the heritage of folk literature; at present several hundred thousand characters of collated and archived folk literature still await publication. The transmission of Beipiao folk stories is mainly of two forms, family transmission and social transmission; at present many transmitters are advanced in years and in poor health, and Beipiao folk stories are in an endangered state and urgently need protection.
