From about the Ming, while being sung orally, it was also preserved in ancient Zhuang script, part of it becoming scripture of the Zhuang folk Mo religion. Drawing on Mo-religion scriptures and field investigation, it was transmitted orally from generation to generation around Tianyang county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Bulotuo is a mythological figure of the Zhuang forebears' oral literature, a god of creation, of ancestry and of morality. The orally transmitted verse creation myth of Bulotuo has native characteristics in content and, through the long course of oral transmission and the polishing of generation after generation, its artistry has also been perfected and raised. It not only helps people understand history and meets their needs in life but also has an educative function. It is a long verse creation myth of the Zhuang, mainly recording Bulotuo's great achievements in splitting heaven and earth and creating humanity, and has been transmitted orally around Tianyang county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region since ancient times.

The Bulotuo is a long verse creation myth of the Zhuang, mainly recording Bulotuo's great achievements in splitting heaven and earth and creating humanity; it has been transmitted orally around Tianyang county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region since ancient times.
04 · Cultural Value & Contemporary Safeguarding
The Bulotuo's content covers six aspects—Bulotuo creating heaven and earth, creating humanity, creating all things, creating the local emperor, creating writing and the calendar and creating ethics—reflecting humanity's history from the age of raw flesh and blood to the farming age and the conditions of Zhuang forebears' clan and tribal society, with some academic value for the study of history, literature, religion, ancient writing, phonology and music. Owing to historical and other reasons the Bulotuo today faces a crisis of being lost and requires such means as general survey, archiving, research and publication, and also protection through establishing Bulotuo cultural-ecology protection villages, chanting teams and training halls and running training classes in the relevant schools, so that it may continue to be transmitted under modern conditions.
