Male, Bouyei, born in August 1947, a native of Pan County, Guizhou Province. He was a Bouyei pange singer. Through his efforts he became a local folk Bouyei pange singer from the age of twenty-one. In 2010 he took part in the collection and translation of Bouyei pange organized by the Pan County Bureau of Culture, Sport, Radio and Television and Tourism. In 2011 he was engaged by Yangchang Gantang Primary School to teach Bouyei pange.
Honors & Recognition
He is a representative bearer of Bouyei pange, a fourth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. Influenced by his elders, he loved Bouyei pange from childhood and learned it from the elderly Wu Deming, a transmitter of Bouyei pange, coming to appreciate the cultural meanings it carries. In August 2010 he was named a representative bearer of a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage project by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture. By the end of 2011 he had trained five disciples and had produced more than one hundred compact discs for distribution to surrounding Bouyei villages, so that Bouyei men and women, old and young, could learn Bouyei pange.
