Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Female, of Han ethnicity, born in August 1964 in Tangshan, Hebei Province. She is a National First-Grade Actor. In 1981 she became a disciple of Hong Ying, came to understand and master the performing characteristics of Hong school art, and is a representative figure of the female xiaosheng (young male) role in Pingju Opera. She closely resembles Hong Ying in breath control, vocal production and physical performance, and gives full expression to Hong school art in the explosive delivery of diction (pen), the grounded drive of vocal production (hang), the flash of technique (shan) and the vivacity of bearing (qiao). Her high notes are firm and uplifted and her low notes supple and lingering; she lets emotion carry the voice, with sound and feeling in full harmony. Her representative works include Liu Ling Gets Drunk (Liu Ling Zui Jiu), The Butterfly Lovers (Liang Zhu), Conferring the Chancellorship of Six States (Liu Guo Feng Xiang), Fifteen Strings of Cash (Shi Wu Guan), The Legend of the Red Dragon (Hong Long Zhuan), Zhou Ren Offers His Sister-in-Law (Zhou Ren Xian Sao) and The Imperial River Bridge (Yu He Qiao).

Honors & Recognition
