Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Also known as Wang Pengcao, she is female, of Han ethnicity, born in February 1942 in Lingbao, Henan Province. She loved paper-cutting from childhood and, guided by her mother and maternal grandmother, began learning to cut decorative paper flowers at the age of seven. She started with small window flowers, narrow decorative borders and the double-happiness character, then learned to cut ceiling flowers and folded flowers, and afterwards sought subjects, stories and idioms in everyday life, creating according to their meaning. In this way she gradually formed a paper-cutting art of original conception, profound implication and distinctive style. Her material is drawn from folk life; she is skilled at expressing new things through traditional methods while infusing her own feeling, so that her works are rich in content, lively in form, full in composition and natural in the movement of the scissors, and carry a strong artistic atmosphere.
