A man of Han ethnicity, he was born in 1925 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. A national representative bearer of Shaoxing Yellow Rice Wine Brewing Craftsmanship, a first-batch national intangible cultural heritage project, and an advanced worker of the national light industry system. Wang Aniu was born into a brewing family in Shangbeng Village, Dongpu, Shaoxing. In 1979, he was appointed a wine-tasting committee member of the Ministry of Light Industry, and in 1982 he was again appointed a national-level judge for yellow rice wine. Wang Aniu accumulated a large body of first-hand materials; in 1959 he compiled the Operating Procedures for Shaoxing Wine, and after retiring he wrote the 300,000-character Production Technology of Shaoxing Wine Brewing, thereby transforming Shaoxing wine from a traditional craft passed down orally from generation to generation into a systematic operating procedure set down in writing. So that the Shaoxing yellow rice wine brewing craft would have successors, Wang Aniu has taught the craft and trained technical personnel at various yellow rice wine training classes for many years; his students are found in distilleries large and small throughout Shaoxing.
Honors & Recognition
He studied the brewing and fermentation techniques of Shaoxing yellow rice wine with painstaking diligence and repeated practice, attaining a consummate and complete command of Shaoxing wine production technology, and became an outstanding expert of the first rank in China's yellow rice wine industry.
