Qiao Zhongxin
Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire
Qiao Zhongxin, male, Han, was born in May 1934 and is a native of Wafangdian City, Liaoning Province. He came from a local family of drum-and-wind music and learned the folk "blowing and percussion" music from childhood. He later took the renowned double-reed pipe player Diao Dengke as his teacher and systematically studied the technique of the shuangguan. He has comprehensively mastered shuangguan technique. In performance he can convey delicate, gentle, soft and lingering moods, and can also create lofty, deep, rough and full musical images. His representative works include Jiang He Shui (River Waters), San Ji Zi and Chao Tian Zi (Audience with the Emperor). Over the years he has collected, collated and recovered more than twenty scores for the shuangguan, has taught these traditional pieces to more than forty disciples, and has actively carried out transmission activities in local primary and secondary schools.
