Male, Tujia ethnicity, born in 1941, a native of Longshan, Hunan. In his early years he learned Tujia daliuzi with a local music troupe, and later worked as an instrumentalist and engaged in composition at the county performing arts company; after 1984 he held posts in the county cultural centre and the county CPPCC, and is a former vice-chairman of the county CPPCC. Over the years Tian Longxin has collected and compiled 3.8 million characters of material on ethnic arts, received the title Outstanding Representative Bearer of Chinese Folk Culture, and is listed in more than twenty reference works, including Who's Who in Chinese Folk Culture, Dictionary of Chinese Minority Arts and International Who's Who. His representative pieces include Jin Ji Chu Shan (Golden Pheasant Descending the Mountain) and Bi Zi Ka de Jie Ri (The Bizika Festival).
Honors & Recognition
Representative bearer of Tujia Daliuzi Percussion, a second-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. Since retiring he has served as chairman of the expert committee of the Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture project for the protection of ethnic and folk culture, among other posts. He has won awards at numerous international and domestic competitions and has taught Tujia daliuzi techniques at several art academies in China.
