Male, of Manchu ethnicity, born in 1945, a native of Fengning, Hebei. A national representative bearer of paper-cutting (Fengning Manchu paper-cutting), a first-batch national intangible cultural heritage project, and a folk craft artist of Hebei Province. Influenced by his family from childhood, at the age of five he began helping his mother and elder sisters pin down paper and smoke patterns for cutting, and at seven he took up dyeing paper-cuts and cutting window flowers. In 1974 he began a systematic study of folk paper-cutting and started his own creative work in paper-cutting. After 1987 he concentrated on the transmission and creation of Manchu folk-custom paper-cutting, striving to produce paper-cuts in different styles and experimenting with new forms of expression such as color-assembled paper-cutting and color-filled paper-cutting. His paper-cutting covers a wide range of subjects, with the customs and conditions of the Manchu people as its principal content and a rich flavor of everyday life; following the traditional style of Fengning paper-cutting, it relies mainly on positive cutting, with negative cutting as a complement, and its cut branches are fine and delicate. His representative works include Highlights of Opera Figures (Xiqu Renwu Jijin), A Chart of One Hundred Blessings (Baifu Tu), and Thoughts of the Manchu Homeland (Manxiang Qingsi).
