Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

Male, of Han ethnicity, born in 1953, a native of Yueqing, Zhejiang. A national representative bearer of paper-cutting (Yueqing fine-line paper-engraving), a first-batch national intangible cultural heritage project; a master of arts and crafts of Zhejiang Province; and a senior craft artist. Chen Yuhua was born into a family of fine-line paper-engravers and was influenced by his family from childhood; he has not only fully inherited the techniques handed down in his family and produced a large number of works, but has also organically combined this art with modern mounting techniques, making it a craft object that is at once classically elegant and rich in modern flavor. The hallmark of his technique lies in lines as fine as gossamer, cut without any preliminary draft. He has created many excellent works, which have been collected by the National Art Museum of China and other institutions; he has also founded the Yueqing Yuhua Fine-line Paper-engraving Institute. His representative works include Famous Scenery of Wenzhou (Wenzhou Mingsheng), Surplus Year after Year (Liannian Youyu), and Dragon and Phoenix Herald Auspiciousness (Longfeng Chengxiang).
