Mastery, Signature Works & Repertoire

A storyteller of Kazuo Dongmeng folk tales. Most of her stories came from her mother Zhou Guilan, and she accumulated a great many more while labouring in the production team. Her repertoire is rich in content and consists mostly of short, pithy moral tales that punish evil and encourage good, such as A Jar of Silver Turns into Toads, Xiao Li and Da Li and The Turtle Carries the Filial Son. These stories praise truth, goodness and beauty from various angles and carry a certain allegorical and admonitory educational significance. In addition, character legends such as Fang Xiaoru and the Extermination of Ten Clans and Liu Luoguo Aids the Common People, wondrous tales such as The Divine Whip and The Snake Brother-in-Law, animal stories such as The Fox and the Crane Become Friends, and local legends such as The Southern Barbarian and the Hidden Treasure also account for a certain proportion. Her main stories have been collected in Folk Tales of Kazuo Dongmeng.
