The legend also describes the origin of seeds and the agricultural civilisation under the slash-and-burn mode of production, as well as the great migration of the tribes. Among them the series of stories extolling the industrious virtue, fine tradition and social achievements of the Lhoba ancestors is the most representative, gradually forming the Lhoba ancestor legend, the legend of Aba Dani, transmitted to the present.

02 · Core Techniques & Process

Lhoba is a Tibetan transliteration meaning southerners. The Lhoba population of Mainling county alone reaches more than one thousand six hundred. The Lhoba divide into the Kaluo, those close to the Tibetan areas, and the Dingluo, those far from the Tibetan areas, the Lhoba of Mainling county belonging to the Kaluo. The legend of the Bogar tribe of Mainling county in Tibet holds that the heavenly father and earth mother united and had a son Jindong, who had a son Dongri, who had two sons Rini and Riluo, that is Aba Dani and Aba Daluo. Aba Dani is the ancestor of the Lhoba and Aba Daluo the ancestor of the Tibetan. Aba Dani married Dongni Haiyi, daughter of the sun, and multiplied many tribes together with birds and beasts, insects, poultry, wind demons, frogs, flies, bamboo women and rock women, forming clans with animals, bamboo and rocks as totems. After frequent clan and tribal wars the formation and consolidation of the tribal confederation was promoted. The Lhoba have no script of their own, so the legends and historical stories of their own people can only be transmitted orally from generation to generation.
