Male, of Han ethnicity, born in January 1971 in Qingyang County, Gansu Province. He is a National First-Class Actor. He worked successively in the Qingyang County Cultural Work Troupe and the Wuwei Prefecture Qin Opera Troupe, and in 2001 was transferred to the Gansu Provincial Long Opera Theatre. Inheriting the sheng (male lead) vocal art of Longdong Daoqing, he has combined it with the qualities of his own voice and drawn on the performing methods of Qin opera and Peking opera to form a style described as retaining the resonance without being bound by volume, with the sound rising and the flavour lingering. He has inherited and enriched such signature movements of Long opera as the silhouette posture and the side sway. His performances in Jiuhua Shan (Mount Jiuhua), Zhou Ren Xian Sao (Zhou Ren Gives Up His Sister-in-Law), Yuanmen Zhan Zi (Executing the Son at the Camp Gate), Guane Qingge (The Guane Love Song) and Xixia Changge (The Long Song of Xixia) are deeply loved by audiences.
Honors & Recognition
He is a national representative bearer of Daoqing Opera (Long Opera), a fifth-batch national intangible cultural heritage project. In 2004 he received the Twenty-First China Drama Plum Blossom Award. Among the students he has trained is Tan Qiang, winner of the Little Plum Blossom Award of the China Children's Opera Competition and of the Third Gansu Drama Red Plum Award.
