02 · Core Techniques & Process
Bamboo-weaving handicraft production in Zhejiang is concentrated in the Dongyang and Shengzhou area, and Dongyang in particular has long enjoyed the reputations of a “home of a hundred crafts” and a “home of arts and crafts.” Dongyang bamboo weaving centers on three-dimensional weaving, combined with flat weaving techniques; the workmanship is fine, the forms lively, the colors elegant, bearing strong folk-art characteristics and fully reflecting the character of Dongyang's bamboo culture. Dongyang bamboo weaving excels at three-dimensional figures, animals, and vessels such as traditional bamboo baskets; the hand-split bamboo strips are as fine as hair and as soft as silk, and through fine weaving the works are lifelike and true to spirit.
