Gong Suping

01 · Lineage & Regional School

Gong Suping, Female, Han, from Yanyijituan, Jiangsu, is a sixth-batch national representative bearer of Peking Opera (Ⅳ-28). The tradition is documented in Yanyijituan, Jiangsu. Within the regional tradition and school record of Peking Opera in Yanyijituan, Jiangsu: At present the theatre has more than 120 performers and staff, a well-ordered company in which a variety of schools are represented, and among its core artistic forces are a number of first-grade performers renowned at home and abroad, such as Li Jie, Xu Quanxin and Zhou Lixia. In 2001 the Jiangsu Peking Opera Theatre and five other provincial-level art troupes were reorganised to form the Jiangsu Performing Arts Group. In 2005 it was rated a "national key Peking opera troupe" by the Ministry of Culture. From the 1950s to the present it has created dozens of outstanding plays, among them Luotuo Xiangzi (Rickshaw Boy) and Piaoyi de Hongshajin (The Graceful Red Silk Scarf).

03 · Transmission & Safeguarding Status

In 2025, Gong Suping was announced in the sixth batch of national representative bearers for Peking Opera, with Yanyijituan, Jiangsu as the declared area. Within the documented safeguarding record of Peking Opera in Yanyijituan, Jiangsu: The project was inscribed in the national inventory in 2011 (batch 3), with Yanyijituan, Jiangsu as its declared area, and Jiangsu Performing Arts Group Co., Ltd. as its safeguarding unit. Since the project was inscribed in the national inventory, its declared area and safeguarding unit have carried out documentation, transmission and presentation within the national safeguarding framework. Together, the inventory record and the project archive form the public documentary basis for the bearer’s transmission practice.
